Meet the Designer
LaShawn Kenley
The Vision Behind People of the Son
People of the Son was founded by LaShawn Kenley in February 2017 (under a different name), after nearly a decade working within the fashion industry. With a deep commitment to slow fashion and the traditional craft of garment creation, LaShawn builds every design from the ground up — rooted in ethical making, pure fabrics and textiles, and a creative vision that is entirely her own.
Every piece is an original. No briefs, no outside references — just a bold, in-house design born from her imagination and brought to life with intention. Dope, cool, chic, glam… LaShawn blurs every line to create something uniquely different with every piece.
Her work has been acquired by the National Museum of African American History and Culture and has graced the cover of WWD (Women’s Wear Daily), with features across CNN, BET, Fox 5, Voice of America, Essence, Washingtonian magazine and more.
“When designing I think of where the woman is going, how she wants to feel and the statement she will make. Our presence speaks before our mouths ever do and our clothing is an extension of that expression. It’s an honor to be a part of the daily process in how women decide to show up in the world.”
